Unwanted Calls

SUNY Cortland has seen an increase in "Robo Calls" as well as Telephone Scams.  Remember that telemarketers and scammers change Caller ID information easily and often, SUNY Cortland does not block telephone numbers because of this reason.

Considerations when dealing with RoboCalls and Scammers:
(adapted from ftc.gov)

Be suspect if a call is automated and from an unknown local number, if you are suspicious ask for a callback number.

Hang up the phone. Don't press 1 to speak to a live operator and don't press any other number to get your number off the list. If you respond by pressing any number, it will probably just lead to more robocalls.

If a scammer calls you hang up the phone.

Report your experience to the FTC online or by calling 1-888-382-1222.

Thank You.
